Fungal Nail Treatment

Fungal Nail concerns can be stubborn and difficult to remove, over-the-counter topicals, powers and creams will sometimes do the trick, however, when this doesn’t work, laser fungal treatments can be the next step!

  • The laser is absorbed by the infected tissue, heating the area until discomfort (This treatment does require a fair amount of heat), by heating the infected tissue, the laser is effectively damaging the viral cells, slowly breaking down the infection.

  • The Nd:YAG can aid anyone with fungal nail conditions on the hands and feet. It is important to consult with your GP prior to the treatment to ensure this is a good treatment fit.

  • Nails and the skin surrounding may feel tender for a short period of time, to help prevent reinfection or further infection use clean shoes/socks, wash sheets, disinfect shower and bath.

Continue the use of anti-fungal cream, powders or sprays as recommended by GP, ensure nails are trimmed short and clean.

  • The number of treatments is dependent on the severity of the infection and will take anywhere from 1-5 treatments.

  • The average time between treatments is 4 to 6 weeks.

Due to the slow growth of the nails, treatment results may not be visible for 3 months and may take 9 to 12 months + for the infection to grow out.

  • When you arrive, your clinician will take you through a thorough consultation. Your clinician will perform a thorough clinical cleanse, testing your natural barrier functioning and apply safety eyewear.

Each toe, regardless of if they are infected or clear will be treated starting from the helix (Big toe) or thumb before moving onto adjacent toes/fingers.

The aim of the treatment is to heat the infected area, this will either lead your clinician to treating until discomfort is felt OR at least 50-70 pulses on each nail.

Your clinician will be communicating throughout to ensure you are comfortable.
