Initial Skin Consultation

Each patient must go through a thorough, initial consultation. This consultation consists of verbal questioning and visual observation (Skin analysis) to determine patient concerns, lifestyle factors, skincare regime, SPF use and sun exposure, and treatment history to determine indications for treatment and contra-indications for treatment.

Your clinician will then create an individualised treatment plan to work with you towards your skin goals! If you require further assistance from a GP or Dermatologist, your clinician will also recommend this to you.

This will give you time to ask questions, and become educated with your skin, skin concern and the modalities we provide.

You will have the opportunity to undergo your first treatment the same day, including either a laser modality or a non-light-based treatment such a peel. This will help your clinician gain an understanding of your skin, and how your body heals/reacts to the treatment.

  • Sun exposure- reduce and minimise all sun exposure weeks prior and day of treatment to prevent sunburn, pigmentation and contra-indications to the treatment. If you have had recent sun exposure we cannot treat you, this is not a punishment but ensures your skin stays safe during the treatment and adverse reactions are avoided.

Medications- Any medications that cause photosensitivity, such as antibiotics, cannot be taken during the treatment time, if you are placed on photo-sensitising medications please let us know so we can work around this! (This includes herbal/alternative medicines and supplements).

Active skin care- Any actives such as Retinol/Vitamin A or any AHA/BHA exfoliants should be avoided for at least 3 days prior to the treatment.

Avoid makeup coming into your treatment, this will make it easier for you and your clinician.

  • Sun exposure- Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun and UV exposure for up to and over 48 hours after your treatment, SPF is a must! Avoid all direct sun exposure to the treatment area.

Active skin care- Avoid all active skin care including (but not limited to) Retinol/vitamin A, Vitamin C (Topical), Vitamin B (Topical) for up 3-5 days post treatment to avoid irritation. A basic cleanser, moisturiser and SPF is all you need unless told otherwise by your clinician!

Touching/Picking/Scratching- Don’t. Simply avoid touching the skin, do not scratch or pick at flaking skin as this will lead to irritation and possible adverse reactions such as pigmentary concerns, scarring and even infection. If you are experiencing discomfort, feel free to cool compress with a clean, soft towel or disposable towels, apply a soothing balm or aloe.

Be patient- Treatment results vary significantly from person to person, the skin will not change overnight, and the best results come to those who wait! If you are worried, please contact your clinician.
