Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL)

Cutera Limelight is a light-based treatment which can be used to reduce the appearance of diffused redness and discolouration such as hyperpigmentation, freckles, and sun damage on the face and body.

Unlike most lasers, IPL uses broad-spectrum light, and a range of wavelengths to treat multiple skin concerns simultaneously.

  • The Light is absorbed by the chromophore haemoglobin (Blood) and Melanin (Pigment) within the skin, the chromophore is heated which leads to a controlled wounding of the skin.

    When the pigment is targeted patients will often see darkening, this is no cause for alarm! As the pigment is broken down through the lymphatic system and by natural exfoliation, the pigment will lighten and, in some cases, disappear altogether!

     Similarly, when the haemoglobin is targeted, patients may not see an immediate change, this is normal! Often it may take a few weeks for change to happen.

  • IPL is a fantastic laser treatment for anyone with concerns of:

    • Hyperpigmentation: Freckles, lentigines, age spots, and sun damage.

    • Diffused redness associated with rosacea

    • Fine lines and wrinkles

    • Acne – By targeting inflammation and redness

  • IPL is considered a ‘lunchtime treatment’ meaning you will be in and out within the hour with minimal to no downtime.

    Due to the gentle heating of the skin, most patients will be able to return to work immediately. Some patients will experience short term redness and darkening of pigmentation post-procedure which will dimmish.  

    If you experience redness post-procedure, makeup may be applied if required.

  • IPL can take anywhere between 3 to 6 treatments for effective reduction in pigmentation and redness, each person is different, so ensure to book in for a thorough consultation to be properly informed prior to treatment.

  • IPL treatments are usually spaced out 4 to 6 weeks apart before moving into a maintenance program which is recommended at 12-week intervals.

  • IPL has the fantastic ability to combine with other treatments and more often a combination of treatments is the best way to achieve significant results!

    • IPL and LED: Targeting various skin concerns such as aging, redness, acne and general rejuvenation. This treatment is also fantastic for someone who wants that relaxation factor too.

    • IPL Facial: This includes a peel customised for the patients’ needs and Laser Genesis.

  • When you arrive, your clinician will take you through a thorough consultation. Your clinician will perform a thorough clinical cleanse, testing your natural barrier functioning and apply safety eyewear.

    As the treatment begins, your clinician will work in sections, you will feel small elastic band sensation.
